Part A · Chapter reference (the whole chapter, condensed)
Regular endings — one table for -IR (finir type) & -RE (attendre type)
| Subject | -IR (finir) → radical fin- | -RE (attendre) → radical attend- |
| je | -is → finis | -s → attends |
| tu | -is → finis | -s → attends |
| il / elle / on | -it → finit | — → attend |
| nous | -issons → finissons | -ons → attendons |
| vous | -issez → finissez | -ez → attendez |
| ils / elles | -issent → finissent | -ent → attendent |
Two -IR families: ① finir type adds -iss- in the plural (choisir, réussir, grandir, obéir). ② partir type drops the last consonant of the stem in the singular (partir, sortir, dormir, sentir, servir): je pars, tu pars, il part, nous partons, vous partez, ils partent. -RE like attendre: descendre, répondre, vendre, entendre, perdre (no ending in the il form).
The four core irregulars — six forms each
| Subject | aller | faire | venir | prendre |
| je | vais | fais | viens | prends |
| tu | vas | fais | viens | prends |
| il / elle / on | va | fait | vient | prend |
| nous | allons | faisons | venons | prenons |
| vous | allez | faites | venez | prenez |
| ils / elles | vont | font | viennent | prennent |
Family verbs share the pattern: like venir → tenir, revenir, devenir · like prendre → apprendre, comprendre. Careful: vous faites (not faisez) and ils font (not faisent).
Two time frames from these verbs — aller + inf · venir de + inf
| Frame | Formula | Meaning | Example |
| Near future | aller (present) + infinitive | going to / about to | Je vais partir. · Nous allons manger. |
| Recent past | venir de (present) + infinitive | just did | Il vient de partir. · Elles viennent de finir. |
Key rule: in both frames the second verb stays in the infinitive — only aller / venir is conjugated. de becomes d' before a vowel: Je viens d'arriver.
Part B · Worked handout (six models, six answers)
Watch the pattern, then copy it. Each model below shows the move you will repeat in Part C.
- finir type (+iss in plural): Nous finissons le travail. · Ils choisissent un plat.
- partir type (drop consonant, sing.): Je pars à huit heures. · Elle sort ce soir.
- regular -RE (no ending, il): Il attend le bus. · Nous vendons la voiture.
- irregular: Vous faites du sport. · Elles prennent le train.
- near future (aller + inf): Je vais visiter Paris demain.
- recent past (venir de + inf): Nous venons de rentrer.
Before you submit — check: ① right radical? ② right ending for the subject? ③ did you keep the -iss- only for finir-type plurals? ④ second verb still an infinitive after aller / venir de? ⑤ d' before a vowel?
